IDEAS ON INCLUSION OF PROSTITUTES IN THE SOCIETY
Human trafficking is the third-largest organized crime after drugs and the arms trade across the globe. As per the statistics by the Government – in every eight minutes a child goes missing in our country, four women and girls in India enter prostitution, three of them against their will...
Victims of human trafficking have great chances of suffering from issues like mental disorders, depression and anxiety. Women forced into sex trafficking have a higher risk of getting affected by HIV and other STDs.
The Indian Government has passed a bill in which laws related to sexual violence and sex trafficking have been amended. Law regarding the sex workers’ status The Immoral Traffic (Suppression) Act was passed in 1956. It is also referred to as SITA. This law states that prostitutes are allowed to ply their trade in private but they cannot carry out their business in the open.
What is PROSTITUTION? Prostitution is the business or practice of engaging in sexual activity in exchange for payment.
As per official statistics, there are 3 million sex workers in India. The population invested in this business is huge but when comes to laws, they are impartial to them.
I have collected few ideas that would be quite effective to get this population included in the society and considered to be like any other citizens in India who has the so-called society formed ‘reputable jobs’.
- As rightly said by Mahatma Gandhi, “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” A change within an individual can bring about a change. People should be more aware of the issues faced by the sex workers and also make a mental note that they are fellow humans too.
- People as responsible citizens, NGO workers should approach these workers and tell them about the importance of education and it can change their lives completely. We suggest so because we can notice that a daughter of a prostitute becomes a prostitute, either by choice or by the force of mother and father. They should also be told about sexually transmitted diseases and how to prevent them.
- Much of this the population doesn’t choose it by choice and neither do their parents force them but the fact that they are extremely poor lands them into this business.
- Prostitution is a million-dollar business. If spoken irrationally, ONE can that the government provides them with enough money with which they can sustain their life. But since it is too irrational, we can at least say that a family should adopt a willing prostitute and give her guidance and bring her into the mainstream.
- The Government should reinforce few laws which will help this population to adapt to mainstream education and form a new career of their own.
- Petitions are one of the most effective methods. As we know the Indian Government is for the people and by the people. The Citizens of India always have an upper hand when it comes to reform. When millions of people come together and fight for one cause, it forces the government to take immediate actions. Rallying and Campaigning also create impact.
- As I suggested before we, the people in the mainstream should guide the sex workers but it is not only these people who need to change their thinking, the society as a whole should change their mindset. Most often, even if the sex workers want to come into streamline they are often ignored, disrespected or abused. This creates fear in the minds of the sex workers.
- I am not suggesting that these changes and guidance should be given to all because many people tend to choose this profession by their own will irrespective of their economic status or education or any other factor.
